The Castle, located in the heart of Dénia on a small hill, stands as an iconic structure steeped in centuries of history. This fortress not only encapsulates the city's past but also offers some of the most breathtaking views of Dénia from its various viewpoints. Be sure to take a moment to appreciate the scenery.

The entrance to the Castle is on San Francisco Street. To find it, we suggest heading towards the Town Hall Square, where you will encounter signs and steps leading to the Castle. Please note that the ascent must be made on foot.

TAKE A STROLL AND SURPRISE YOU

The area surrounding the castle invites you to take a leisurely stroll through the medieval streets of Barrio Les Roques. As you walk around the ancient walls, you’ll encounter a remarkable pedestrian tunnel that runs beneath the castle—a former bomb shelter during the Spanish Civil War. From here, you can continue your journey through the Historical Center, where you’ll find impressive 19th-century buildings. If you follow the vibrant main street, Marqués de Campo, it will lead you directly to the port.

The city center is predominantly pedestrian, offering an array of shops to browse and numerous terraces where taking a break is simply irresistible.

We also recommend visiting Magallanes Street, where the Municipal Market is a must-see. Here, you can explore and discover the typical products of our region.

The Ethnological Museum, housed in a 19th-century bourgeois residence, offers a fascinating glimpse into the period when the city prospered through the raisin trade. The TOY MUSEUM is a must-visit, especially if you're accompanied by children. Housed in the old railway station, this museum showcases a collection of Dénia's toy production, tracing its history from its inception in 1904 through to the 1960s. The exhibits feature toys that evoke memories of bygone eras, delighting and surprising visitors of all ages.

The MUSEUM OF THE SEA situated in the old fish market by the port, highlights the maritime heritage of Dénia and its inhabitants. SPLASH INTO DÉNIA´S CRYSTAL CLEAR WATERS AND DISCOVER THE BEAUTY OF ITS COAST

The city port divides the coastline into

distinct areas, each offering its own unique charm.

To the north stretches LES MARINES BEACH, the largest and most popular beach in Dénia. Known for its extensive sandy shores, it is a favored spot for tourists and visitors looking to enjoy a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean.

To the south lies the LES ROTES coast, characterized by small rocky coves ideal for snorkeling. These crystal-clear waters are part of the SAN ANTONIO MARINE RESERVE, a protected area where you can often spot migrating cetaceans and seabirds from late May to July as they journey to southern shores.

Take a leisurely stroll along the rocky coast, which can be explored on foot or by bicycle. A scenic PROMENADE spans approximately 5 kilometers, beginning at MARINETA CASSIANA BEACH and offering a delightful way to experience the coastal landscape.

For a more adventurous experience, consider taking a short hike to the TORRE DEL GERRO, a 16th-century watchtower perched atop a small mountain. Located at the end of the road that winds through the area, this excursion offers a unique opportunity to feel like a sentinel while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

GET ACTIVE AND HAVE FUN

Dénia's coastline, stretching over 19 kilometers, offers ample opportunities to engage in nautical sports or simply enjoy recreational activities on the sea.

A variety of local companies provide active tourism and nautical experiences, including boat trips, kayaking, and jet skiing. Additionally, you can partake in windsurfing, sailing, paddleboarding, scuba diving, and many other exciting activities.

EXPLORE DÉNIA´S NATURAL WONDERS

From various vantage points throughout the city, you can admire the MONTGÓ NATURAL PARK, a 753-meter-high mountain that dominates the southern half of the municipality. Hiking in this park is a rewarding experience, as it serves as a botanical treasure trove. The park features numerous trails suitable for all ages. For the most spectacular experience, we recommend visiting during the late winter and spring months when the park is at its most vibrant.

At the base of the cliffs of Cape San Antonio, within the boundaries of the Natural Park, lies COVA TALLADA, a remarkable cave created from the extraction of rough stone used in local architecture since the 16th century. The walking route to the cave is challenging and may not be suitable for children or those unaccustomed to mountain hiking. Alternatively, visitors can explore the area by kayaking.

From the 15th of June to the 30th of September, access to the cave is restricted to a limited number of visitors, both on foot and by kayak, so a reservation must be made through the website of the park www.parquesnaturales.gva.es

If you visit DENIA's GREENWAY in the spring, you'll be treated to a scenic walk amidst orange and almond trees as they begin their blooming period and reach their peak splendor. Whether you choose to walk, run, or cycle, this experience is not to be missed!

SAVOR AND TAKE A BREAK

As lunchtime approaches, you’ll find that gastronomy is a highlight of Dénia, which was recognized as a Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO in 2015. Be sure to sample some of its traditional dishes, such as "arròs a banda" (a local rice dish), dry octopus, red prawns, or "coques de la Marina" (savory pastries). The charming neighborhood of BAIX LA MAR, which developed in the 16th century between the castle walls and the port, is known for its maritime and fishing spirit. Its quaint buildings, squares, and narrow streets are sure to captivate you. On Pont Street, you can also visit ELS MAGAZINOS, a delightful cultural and gastronomic space with plenty of character.

The marinas MARINA EL PORTET and MARINA DE DÉNIA, situated at the north and south breakwaters of the port respectively, offer dining options with stunning views of the sea and the iconic silhouette of the city. Both marinas accommodate significant vessels and house numerous companies connected to the nautical world.

LORETO STREET, adjacent to the Town Hall Square, is an excellent location for enjoying tapas and other traditional dishes, just a short distance from the main historical landmarks.
